Prince Harry has refused to quietly accept another courtroom defeat. Just hours after London’s High Court dismissed his long-running lawsuit against Associated Newspapers, the Duke of Sussex issued a forceful response accusing the court of failing to deliver justice.

His remarks signal that his years-long campaign against Britain’s tabloid press remains far from over, despite suffering one of its biggest legal setbacks.

Prince Harry Rejects Court’s Conclusion

Prince Harry and fellow claimant Baroness Doreen Lawrence released a joint statement shortly after Mr. Justice Nicklin dismissed the claims brought against Associated Newspapers following a 46-day High Court trial.

Rather than accepting the judgment, the pair argued that the outcome ignored evidence they believed supported their case.

“We came to Court seeking justice and accountability. But we have received neither,” the statement began.

The Duke and Baroness Lawrence also questioned how the court reached conclusions that they believe differ from previous rulings involving unlawful information gathering by British newspaper publishers.

They argued that the judgment “represents a complete reversal of the position which previous Judges have taken” in earlier cases involving News Group Newspapers and Mirror Group Newspapers.

The statement further claimed that findings involving private investigators connected to similar reporting “have been wholly ignored,” calling the result “an inconsistency which is hard to understand or reconcile with common sense, or the evidence heard in the courtroom itself.”

The lawsuit centered on allegations that Associated Newspapers unlawfully obtained private information through methods including phone hacking, deception, private investigators, and corrupt payments. The publisher denied the accusations throughout the proceedings.

Why The Prince Harry Case Reached This Point

The legal battle has been one chapter in Prince Harry’s broader campaign against sections of the British media, a fight he has repeatedly linked to the treatment of his late mother, Princess Diana, and to what he says has been a lifetime of intrusive reporting.

Unlike some of his previous lawsuits, however, this case ended with the court concluding that the claimants failed to prove the disputed newspaper articles resulted from unlawful information gathering.

In his judgment, Mr. Justice Nicklin found that the journalists involved had provided lawful explanations for how the stories were sourced and determined that suspicion alone could not establish legal liability.

The ruling covered claims brought by several high-profile figures alongside Harry, including Baroness Lawrence, Sir Elton John, David Furnish, Elizabeth Hurley, Sir Simon Hughes, and Sadie Frost.

For Harry, the decision represents a notable setback after earlier legal victories. In 2023, he succeeded in part of his case against Mirror Group Newspapers over unlawful information gathering, and earlier this year he reached a settlement with News Group Newspapers that included an apology relating to serious intrusions into his private life.

Despite those previous outcomes, Prince Harry believes this latest ruling departed sharply from earlier judicial findings.

“It is a complete and obvious whitewash, but sadly not altogether unexpected,” the joint statement said. “However, the lengths to which the Court has gone to exonerate the Mail is as shocking as it is totally unwarranted.”

The statement went on to argue that the evidence presented during trial deserved greater weight.

“When the Court says there is not sufficient evidence of wrongdoing, despite the documents showing otherwise, then one does wonder how justice was ever going to be achieved,” Harry and Baroness Lawrence said before pointing to examples they believe demonstrate unlawful conduct, including allegations involving private investigators, confidential medical information, and travel records connected to Harry’s former girlfriend, Chelsy Davy.

Harry previously testified during the trial that there had been a “widespread invasion of my privacy” during his relationship with Davy.

Previous Legal Wins Make This Outcome Different

The latest judgment stands out because it breaks a run of important courtroom successes Harry has secured in recent years.

Since stepping away from royal duties, the Duke has made legal action against British newspaper groups one of his most visible public campaigns.

Those lawsuits have focused on alleged unlawful newsgathering practices and what Harry has described as a culture of press intrusion affecting both himself and those close to him.

That broader legal strategy has produced mixed results. While some publishers have settled claims or faced adverse findings in other cases, Associated Newspapers consistently denied wrongdoing and defended the reporting challenged during this trial.

Although the case has now been dismissed, Prince Harry’s statement suggests he remains convinced the legal fight exposed important issues about accountability and press conduct.

“It feels here like one rule for the newspapers and another for the claimants,” the statement said per PEOPLE Magazine. “While the Claimants presented evidence, Mail journalists simply gave denials, and the Court chose uncritically to believe them, even in the face of inconsistencies, contradictions and blatant untruths that were obvious to neutral observers in Court when compared to the documents.”

The statement concluded by thanking the legal team and witnesses who participated in the proceedings, adding: “We presented to the Court evidence which we believed was compelling at the time and remains so now. We would like to thank our legal team for all their hard work and all the witnesses who were brave enough to come forward in the pursuit of justice.”

Whether the Duke pursues additional legal options remains unclear. What is certain is that the High Court’s decision has not changed his public position. Instead, it has reinforced his determination to challenge what he believes are longstanding failures within parts of Britain’s tabloid press, ensuring that one of the most closely watched media battles involving the Royal Family is unlikely to fade from public attention anytime soon.
